D-F Kiwanis look to brighten holidays for area families

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft is proud to sponsor a variety of programs for the benefit of children. Through the Community Christmas Project, Kiwanians, area churches, charitable organizations, businesses, generous individuals and groups of individuals have the opportunity to anonymously “adopt” needy children within the community for Christmas. An “adopter” then purchases needed clothing for their “adopted” child(ren).

If your child(ren) are served by or live within RSU 68, are under the age of 17 and you are finding it difficult to provide for them this Christmas, then we invite you to complete an application through the Facebook page “DFKiwanis” and clicking on the Christmas Project link. This link will be available through Nov 22.

A paper copy of the application can be picked up at your child’s school, town office, the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce and the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Pantry. Application can be mailed back to the address listed on the sheet.

Does your church or civic organization serve families with needy children within the RSU 68? Could they benefit from this project?

If you or your groups are amongst the more fortunate, then we would ask that you consider playing a different role. We are encouraging both organizations and individuals to participate to meet the growing numbers of needy children in our area. Last year an estimated $18,000 in gifts were distributed to 180 needy children seeking “adoption.” This year, as in the past, the need is great. We want to be able to say “yes” to every child who asks for help at Christmas time and with your generosity this goal has always been met and will be met again.

You can help by becoming an adopter. We will be matching adopters to adoptees throughout November. Typically adopters spend around $75 per child, depending on their needs.

If you feel you cannot afford that much, consider doing it with a friend or co-worker. If you are able and inclined to give more, please consider adopting an additional child.

As an adopter you would be given a child’s wish list with his/her age, gender, clothing needs and sizes and shop for those items and bring them (with the wish list) to the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, 824 West Main Street, on or before Dec. 10.

Enrich your Christmas knowing you made a child’s Christmas special. You’re invited to join us in distributing the gifts at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 17.
