Nearly 4,400 Bangor Hydro customers lose power

MILO — A loss of electrical service, resulting from an equipment failure, caused a total of 4,373 customers of the Bangor Hydro Electric Company in Piscataquis and Penobscot counties be without power for several hours on the afternoon of Friday, April 12.
The outage was first reported shortly before 1 p.m. with the towns of Milo, Brownville, Medford, Alton and other surrounding communities among those impacted. According to the Bangor Hydro website (www.bhe.com) power was lost at the substation on Riverside Street in Milo, which caused 3,375 of the nearby customers to lose electricity. All of those impacted by the April 12 outage had their power restored several hours later.
In a statement Bangor Hydro officials reminded their customers to avoid coming in contact with any fallen power lines or trees touching the lines, and to use alternate heat and power sources in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines. Power outages may be reported to Bangor Hydro’s customer service center at 1-800-440-1111, or through the website or mobile site at bhe.com/m. Customers are asked to have their account numbers handy when making contact.
