112th annual Audubon Bird Count results

    The 112th Audubon Bird Count was held in the Dover-Foxcroft area on Monday, Dec. 31. The sky was clear all day. It was 13 degrees in the early morning, to 25 degrees in the afternoon.

    BIRDS IN SEBEC — Among the birds included in the Audubon Bird Count were morning doves and a cardinal, below.

    What was reported by observers at feeders and in the field is as follows: 1 Northern Goshawk, 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 2 Red-tailed Hawk, 14 Bald Eagle, 27 Wild Turkey, 48 Rock Pigeon, 171 Mourning Dove, 16 Hairy Woodpecker, 18 Downy Woodpecker, 95 Blue Jay, 28 Common Raven, 100 Common Crow, 260 Black-capped Chickadee, 14 White-breasted Nuthatch, 14 Red-breasted Nuthatch, 1 Brown Creeper, 18 Starlings, 3 Cardinal, 2 Pine Grosbeak, 84 Common Redpoll, 40 Pine Siskin, 20 American Goldfinch, 18 Dark-eyed Junco, 8 Tree Sparrow and 5 Snow Bunting for a total of 25 species.

    Observers in the field were: Tom and Mickey Creeley, Charles and Mary Dorchester and Kate Weatherby. Feeder watchers were: James and Linda Anderson, Ruth French, Verne and Lou Gray, Jeannette Hughes, Edie Hussey, Debbie Lander, Priscilla Tucker and Irene White.
