Our lakes, rivers and wells: who ‘owns’ water?

    DEXTER — The April 5 session of the First Friday public discussions sponsored by Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition  (DDATT) will focus on “Who Owns our Water?”

    At 7 p.m. the program begins at the Abbott Memorial Library with a brief overview of the Dexter and Dover-Foxcroft region’s historical use of surface water to power local mills and farms, then a current assessment of how lakes, rivers, ponds, springs and wells affect our lives and economics, leading into a facilitated public discussion on all aspects of water rights, especially the complex issues of “ownership” of such an important resource.
    The purpose of these monthly discussions is to gather people together for mutual discussion and civil sharing of ideas on various subjects which affect us all. Please contact either 277-4221 or info@ddatt.org for more information on First Friday events.
