300 pounds lost in New Year’s Challenge

DOVER-FOXCROFT — In January, the Piscataquis Regional YMCA offered a New Year’s Challenge to area businesses and organizations. Six teams of four people each competed in the challenge for fun, prizes and to start the year off focusing on healthy living.

The 6-week challenge ran from Jan. 11 through Feb. 15. Each member of the team weighed in at the beginning of the challenge and each week thereafter. At the end of the six weeks, the teams had lost 306.5 pounds total, representing an average of 5.5 percent of their total body weight. The winning team made up of Kate and Tim Leland, Glenn Collin, and Kerri Raymond lost an impressive 80 pounds total over the course of the contest.
“We’re thrilled with the participation and the success of all our teams,” said Deb Boyd the Y’s executive director, “Many of the team members have used this contest as an incentive to build healthy habits that they can continue throughout the year. We’re proud to have made such a measurable impact in the lives of people in our community. “
This year, the Y is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of the facility on Park Street. Over the course of the year there will be special events and promotions to thank the community for its support.
The Piscataquis Regional YMCA is a mission-driven organization that is committed to the community and dedicated to promoting healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, through programs and services grounded in Christian heritage and the core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility.
