Camden Shakespeare Festival returns to Monson on Saturday
MONSON — Camden Shakespeare Festival, Monson Arts and the Center Theatre will present Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” outdoors in Monson on Saturday, July 25 at 2 p.m. (rain date is Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m.).
“The Tempest” is Shakespeare’s final play — a meditation on betrayal, forgiveness and the power of theatre. The magician Prospero uses his powers to create a sea storm and strand his enemies on his remote island, with the plan of confronting them. Also on the island is his only daughter Miranda, as well as a monster and an enchanted spirit. What begins as a tale of revenge ends in the most surprising conclusion.

“This is one of Shakespeare’s most entertaining creations,” Director Stephen Legawiec said. “In addition to the drama, it has clowns, music and magical effects. This is part Shakespeare play, part magic show and it has been so much fun for us to bring to life. We can’t wait for audiences to see it.”
Attendees should plan to bring blankets or camp chairs to enjoy the play which will be presented outdoors behind Tenney House, 47 Tenney Hill Road. Carpooling is recommended because parking is limited. Tickets are only $14 for the public and $8 for kids 14 and under and $12 for members of the Center Theatre.
