Sebec Lake Association plans annual meeting
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Sebec Lake Association is holding its annual meeting for members on Saturday, July 11 at Central Hall Commons in Dover-Foxcroft.
The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. with “Coffee and Conversations”, a time to connect with friends and neighbors and visit tables staffed by local interests that support the mission of the association to preserve and protect Sebec Lake. The membership meeting will start at 9 a.m. and will be followed by a presentation by the AMC team on their Dark Skies initiative.
Come and learn more about the LakeSmart® program, the operations of the dam and work on water level control, our work to monitor lake water quality, map our native plants and monitor for possible invasive plant species. We’ll have representatives from Maine Inland Fish and Wildlife talking about fisheries in the lake and threats to that, along with information from the Lookout for Loons program on loon protection and promotion. In addition we’ll have representatives from the PACC talking about programs that are of interest to summer (and year-round) residents and information on the Rivers Bend Trout program for veterans and first responders. You’ll also be able to obtain merchandise with the SLA logo on it to show your support for the association in the community!
During our annual meeting we’ll hear updates on the key programs the association is operating including water quality, invasive plant monitoring and education, and our collaboration with Hydroval for monitoring and maintaining the water levels on the lake. We’ll elect five members to the board to serve for a three-year term, review the association’s finances and highlight our investment in a new communications platform including a new website for the SLA. We’ll offer an open mic so you can share your thoughts on the lake and what you’d like the board to focus on in the coming year.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in and love for the lake; you can join for a mere $20 annual dues at the meeting. All members are able to vote on items during the meeting.
Immediately after the annual meeting there will be an educational presentation from the staff from AMC on their Dark Skies initiative. Sebec Lake is at the southern end of the largest dark skies park in New England. Come learn more about why that is important and what you can do to minimize light pollution!
