Norway Savings Bank contributes $1,000 to Declaration of Independence statewide tour

As part of our nation’s 250th anniversary, the Maine Historical Society is providing everyone with the opportunity to view one of our nation’s most important documents. The organization will be stewarding one of 26 surviving copies of the Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence printed in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, and sent to the Colonies to announce American independence.

From July to October, the Declaration will travel across Maine to all 16 counties with great pomp and circumstance. Stops at host sites will include public and student visitation, community celebrations, readings, and special events. Norway Savings Bank has donated $1,000 to the Maine Historical Society to assist with the costs associated with the tour. Here is the schedule:

Sept. 3-5 Foxcroft Academy (Dover-Foxcroft) at the Jim Robinson Field House with hours 12:30-3 p.m. Sept. 3, 12-3 p.m. Sept. 4 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept 5; Sept. 11-12 University of Maine at Presque Isle (Presque Isle); Sept. 18-19 Bangor Public Library (Bangor); Sept. 25-26 Margaret Chase Smith Library (Skowhegan);
