Memorial Day across the region

GARLAND OBSERVANCE — An estimated 25 people made up the rainy Memorial Day gathering in Garland, not counting those in vehicles, who came to show their respects for those who gave their lives for their country. David Iverson, commander of American Legion Post #53 in Dexter, and other post members conducted a brief ceremony which included an invocation and benediction (Pastor Scott Miller), an introduction of veterans present (Thatcher Adams), laying of the wreath donated by Wreaths Across America (Tim Tiess and Sandor “Sandy” Seymour) and taps. Taps was played by Caleb Atwater of Palmyra, a member of the Harold J. Crosby Community Band of Dexter. Veterans who attended were, from left, Thatcher Adams (Marine Corps) Garland, Chuck Berry (Army) Garland, Adjutant Randy Saunders (Air Force) Dexter, Post Commander Iverson (Air Force) Exeter, 1st Vice Commander Seymour (Marine Corps) Harmony, Finance Officer Ken Hughes (Air Force) Corinna, Sergeant at Arms Tiess (Navy) Dexter.

THREE CEREMONIES — Conner-Trafton Post 119 of The American Legion of Guilford conducted three ceremonies for Memorial Day on Monday, in Sangerville, Guilford and Abbot (pictured).
