DRHS students attend summit on education

    PORTLAND — On March 9 a group of  Dexter Regional High School students took part in the Maine Youth Summit on Education and Technology, which was hosted by the Maine Seeds program of the Seeds of Peace International Camp at the Portland Public Library.

    Meredith Roderka, a junior at Dexter Regional High School, spoke about issues facing schools in central Maine. Mohamed Nur, of Deering High School followed with a “Call to Action” to help Maine schools.  Directly afterwards, Gov. Paul LePage spoke about his vision for Maine Schools, followed by Education and Technology panels which held question and answers sessions, and a video by Sen. Angus King where he talked about technology in schools.
    Afterwards, students from across the state created action plans about what changes they feel needs to take place in Maine schools. As a result of the summit, the Maine Seeds program will create a Maine Youth Charter addressing all of the issues the students discussed.
