8-run inning helps Dexter softball win at PCHS
GUILFORD — The Dexter Regional High School softball team scored eight times in the top of the third to retake the lead during a game at Piscataquis Community High School on May 15. The Tigers went from being down a run to leading 12-5 as the team held on for a victory 17-5.
Dexter (the team improved to 2-6 behind a season-high total in runs) sent 13 batters to the plate in the visitor’s half of the third. A throwing error allowed Kallie Stone to score the tying run, and Cindy Adams scored what turned out to be the winning run as she slid home ahead of the throw from the backstop on a wild pitch.
By the end of the inning, the Tigers doubled the run total from six to a dozen on three RBIs, two errors and a wild pitch.

OUT AT FIRST — Dexter’s Kaitlyn Cookson reaches for the throw from shortstop Desiree Adams before PCHS’ Macie Littlefield can get to the bag during the first inning on May 15 in Guilford. The visiting Tigers won 17-5.
Dexter’s No. 2 and 3 hitters Desiree Adams and Allie Grant had three hits apiece to lead the team. Adams went 3-for-5 with a walk as she drove in three runs, scored three times and swiped three bases. Grant was 3-of-4 with a run driven in, two runs of her own and a pair of steals.
The Tigers took a 4-0 lead in the first without getting a hit.
The first six batters all drew walks to build a 2-0 lead, at which point PCHS made a pitching change with Raegan Snowden relieving starter Macie Littlefield. The Tigers would score two more runs on wild pitches for a 4-0 lead but the team would be held hitless until a Grant single with two outs in the second.

FINDING THE PLATE — Hayden Hunt slides across the plate ahead of the throw to Dexter catcher Allie Grant in the bottom of the second on Khloe Farnham’s RBI-single for the third of five PCHS runs in the inning.
The Pirates (the team fell to 0-10) came home five times in the second to go ahead 5-4.
With the bases loaded, Ella Zeller was hit by a pitch to bring home Snowden. Hope Hunt followed by drawing a ball four to score Kiah Nick, and Khloe Farnham hit an RBI-single to score pinch runner Hayden Hunt.
Zeller ran home on a wild pitch to tie the game and Hope Hunt immediately followed to put PCHS ahead at 5-4.

WINDUP AND THE PITCH — Kallie Stone gets ready to throw during the May 15 game at PCHS, with Kaitlyn Cookson at first. Stone pitched a complete game.
Hunt reached base in all four of her at-bats. She went 2-for-2 with the hit by pitch appearance and a base on balls while driving in a run, scoring a run and picking up five steals.
Stone pitched a complete game for Dexter, which earned a season sweep of PCHS including a 15-0 win vs. the Pirates in the season opener on April 22. Stone scattered four hits and four walks and she struck out six.
The first pitch of the May 15 contest was delayed about 20 minutes while rain fell during warmups and a resulting muddy infield needed to be readied for play. The time of the game was a bit on the lengthy side at 2 hours, 35 minutes.

STRANDED AT SECOND — Hope Hunt catches the flyball at second to end the top of the first, stranding Dexter’s Cindy Adams at the base.
