Gilbert steps down as PCHS boys soccer coach

GUILFORD — Piscataquis Community High School boys soccer coach Trey Gilbert has stepped down after a decade leading the Pirates. The announcement was made Monday morning on the SAD 4 Facebook page.

A 1998 PCHS graduate, Gilbert coached the Pirates since 2016 when he took over for John Riitano. Gilbert has coached dozens of young men during his time at PCHS, including his sons Bryce, Kobe and Gavyn.

Under Gilbert’s leadership, PCHS won consecutive regional titles in 2024-25. After coming up just short in the 2024 8-player championship, the Pirates capped off a perfect 18-0 2025 campaign with the first state championship in 40 years.

COACHING CHANGE — PCHS boys soccer coach Trey Gilbert talks to his team after a victory over Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln in 2021 following the first game played under the lighting system at the field in Guilford. Gilbert has stepped down after 10 years leading the Pirates. Graham Goulette will succeed him.

The Facebook post thanks Gilbert for his years of dedication to Pirate soccer and for the generosity he continually demonstrates toward Pirate athletics and SAD 4 as a whole, “We know his decision was not one he took likely, and we are thankful for the memories and lessons you provided to our athletes during your tenure.”

Succeeding Gilbert will be Graham Goulette, a 1995 PCHS graduate who was part of the 1994 Class C East championship team.

In recent years Goulette has coached successful PCMS soccer and basketball teams and is currently a PCHS boys basketball assistant coach. Goulette came highly recommended by Gilbert. His vision for the future and familiarity with the team make him a natural fit for the program going forward.
