Strout earns collegiate rookie honor

GORHAM — University of Southern Maine freshman Hayden Strout, a resident of Charleston and 2025 Foxcroft Academy graduate, has been named the Maine College Baseball & Softball Association Rookie of the Week, USM announced. The first batch of MCBSA weekly awards included stats for all games played on or before March 15.

Strout allowed just one run, three hits and a walk over four innings against Lakeland University in his first career start in a game played in Auburndale Florida. Strout ended his day by picking off a runner who had just singled to end the fourth. The Huskies won the seven-inning game by a score 16-1. Strout pitched again several days later, throwing five innings in a 4-1 loss to Ramapo College and he gave up just a pair of unearned runs.
