SeDoMoCha compete in WinterKids Winter Games
DOVER-FOXCROFT — SeDoMoCha Schools are proud to be participating in the WinterKids Winter Games, competing on the competitive track against schools across the state of Maine while representing Piscataquis County.
SeDoMoCha’s WinterKids programming officially began on Jan. 12, followed by a schoolwide outdoor opening ceremony on Friday, Jan. 16. Bringing the entire school outside in the middle of winter felt like the perfect way to kick things off and set the tone for a month focused on movement, heart health and embracing winter together.
During Week 1 and 2 the focus was on good physical activity and healthy nutrition, with students across all grade levels participating in a variety of engaging activities. One of the most meaningful parts of the WinterKids experience so far has been the way older students have stepped into leadership roles. Eighth grade students partnered with fourth grade classrooms to help facilitate activities, creating strong cross-age connections and giving younger students positive role models to look up to.

Another highlight was a schoolwide lunch, where younger students were surprised when older siblings walked into the cafeteria to sit and eat with them. Watching those moments unfold was a powerful reminder of how important connection and belonging are within a school community.
“WinterKids has given our students opportunities to lead, connect, and support one another in really meaningful ways,” said Kasey Bevis, Wellness Committee member at SeDoMoCha Schools. “Seeing students gain confidence, cheer each other on and feel successful — especially during the winter months — has been incredibly rewarding.”

Looking ahead, we will continue our WinterKids Winter Games programming with more outdoor movement challenges, nutrition-focused activities and a community family night later in the month. Students will continue to play an active role in leading and supporting activities across grade levels as the schools move forward in the statewide competition.
The WinterKids experience reflects SeDoMoCha Schools’ ongoing commitment to student wellness, leadership and community connection, even in the heart of a Maine winter.
