Pine Tree Hospice to host Death Café
GUILFORD — Talking about death won’t kill you! Pine Tree Hospice will host a monthly Death Café beginning Sunday, Dec. 14. The recurring event will take place from 1–3 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month at the Guilford Memorial Library. No registration is required.
A Death Café is an open, welcoming gathering where people come together to share cake, drink coffee and talk about death. The goal is simple: to increase awareness of death so that participants can make the most of their finite lives. There is no set agenda, no objectives and no intent to provide grief support, just honest, thoughtful conversation in a comfortable setting.
“I am excited to see new life breathed into Maine Highlands Death Café after its three-year hiatus,” said Lisa Joy White, founder of Mourning Ventures of Maine LLC. “It’s an incredible opportunity to bring folks together in a relaxed, non-judgmental environment to talk about things that so many in our society still see as taboo. We know that one’s willingness to have open and honest conversations about death and its related issues, can lead to a more fulfilling life and reduced anxiety around end-of-life. So, holding Maine Highland Death Café events in our area again will help spread awareness and open the door to conversations that one might not have otherwise.”
