MSSM hosts J-Term exhibition
LIMESTONE — Staff and students of the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) recently welcomed approximately 100 guests from around the state to the Limestone campus for the annual J-Term Exhibition Program.

J-Term (January Term) is a 10-day program that provides students with the opportunity to dedicate themselves to a particular course or project. There are three options for J-Term; in-depth and on-campus courses, organized trips, or participation in an internship.
One of the strongest features of J-Term is that it allows students the opportunity to customize and shape their experience.
The Feb. 15-16 exhibition gave students an opportunity to showcase their varied endeavors. Attendees, predominantly family members of MSSM students, attended presentations, viewed displays, and exhibitions on J-Term on-campus courses, off-campus research programs, and internship opportunities.
On-campus J-Term course examples included such courses as Algebraic Topology and Combinatorial Group Theory, Organic Chemistry/Alchemy Express, and Murder Will Out: Reading, Watching and Making the British Mystery Novel.
Off-campus research included Tropical Ecology and Sustainability with Cape Eleuthera Institute/Island School, Bahamas and The Largest Radio Telescope in the World with the Escuela Secundaria de Ciencias, Matemática y Tecnología (CIMATEC) in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Internships occurred in the fields of government, linguistics, law, chemistry, business, medicine and engineering.
