Dexter girls fall in regional final

BREWER — Wisdom High School of St. Agatha scored a goal in each half while keeping Dexter Regional High School out of the Pioneer own net to win the girls 8-player North championship 2-0 during the late afternoon of Nov. 6 on the artificial turf at Brewer High School’s Heddericg Field.

Wisdom (15-2) advanced to the program’s first state championship since reaching the 2021 Class D finale (a 3-0 loss to North Yarmouth Academy), and only second in nearly three decades. The school from northern Aroostook County won its sixth game in a row.

Dexter ends the season at 14-3 with the only losses of 2025 coming against the two teams playing in the state championship, one to Wisdom and two to South champion Bangor Christian School (17-0). The Tigers were playing to win a second consecutive 8-player North crown, and had a 7-game winning streak come to an end.

REGIONAL RUNNERS-UP — The Dexter senior Annabelle Peakes holds up the girls 8-player soccer North runner-up plaque following the regional final on Nov. 6 at Brewer High School. The top-seeded Tigers fell to No. 2 Wisdom 2-0 in the program’s second consecutive berth in the regional championship.

Late in the first half Wisdom was awarded a penalty kick on a handball in the box. Pioneer senior Ava Lerman lined up for the shot and she got it into the lower right side ahead of a diving Dexter junior keeper Addy Gudroe for a 1-0 lead at the 7:50-mark

Nearly 10 minutes into the second half Wisdom freshman Ellie Cyr sent a shot over the reach of Gudroe that went in for the 2-0 advantage.

Wisdom picked up its eighth shutout of the season, limiting Dexter to three shots on goal with sophomore keeper Mikayl Michaud making a pair of saves — one in each half. The Tigers were held scoreless for only the second time in 17 games, with Bangor Christian doing likewise during a September victory in Dexter.
