GFWC/Miosac Club News

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC/Miosac Club met on Oct. 7. President Laurie Ducat called the meeting to order. She thanked hostesses Anne Cress and Roxy McGlauflin for substituting for Rheba Michaud. Cress led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance and Americans Creed.

Nine members answered roll call taken by Diane Leighton, one member was reported ill. She then read the report of the last meeting with no corrections.

The speaker for the evening, Harmony Ingraham, cancelled due to health problems — she will be rescheduled. Corresponding Secretary McGlauflin read a letter from Dover-Foxcroft Christmas program, this will happen in December.

Vicki Parsons has requested to be an associate member and that was accepted.

A request from the Maine Veterans Project was discussed and some members plan to go meet the veterans and help pass out Thanksgiving dinner items. Two members went last year. Ducat suggested sending blankets. She has crocheted three and they will be used as door prizes. Suzanne Raymond made the motion and it was accepted. These will be collected at the next meeting.

Cress gave a brief summary of Fall Conference held in Augusta on Sept. 24. Raymond, state president, Program Chair Cress and Delegates Fund Chair Minnie McCormick attended.

Diane Leighton announced that her husband David will be attending the Maine Honor Flight in Arlington, Virginia to see the monuments. David served his country well and he has served the American Legion for years. This is an honor well deserved!

Raymond reported on the huge amount of items that were collected “For the Girls” at the conference as Miosac’s Day of Service Project. These items will provide necessary items to girls and women who  cannot afford  to purchase them. Many are domestic violence survivors.

Moschella asked if anyone was interested in taking over the scrapbook.  She has done it for many years, has won first place several times but now she needs a break. Many of the old scrapbooks are at the Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society.

Raymond announced each club will receive a brochure telling about all we do (statewide) and copies will be made to disperse to all members.

The meeting was adjourned and apple pie with cheese and ice cream was served by the hostesses. Cress made the pies which were declared delicious.

The next meeting will be Oct. 21 with hostesses Moschella and Michaud. No program is scheduled.
