PCHS squads both shut out Greenville during Homecoming

GUILFORD — The Piscataquis Community High School 8-player girls and boys soccer teams both shut out Greenville High School for back to back victories in Homecoming games on Saturday, Sept. 13. The girls won the opener 8-0 and the Pirate boys followed with a 5-0 victory under the lights.

The move this season to the 8-player game has worked out well so far for the Pirate girls, who improved to 2-1 after going 0-13 in Class D North in 2024. The Lakers dropped to 1-3.

Sophomore Breelyn Gaw got the scoring going at the 17:56-mark with her shot from the right side of the field. Greenville senior keeper Justyce Hart got a hand on Gaw’s shot but the ball went up and in to put PCHS on the scoreboard.

At the end of 2024 the PCHS and Greenville boys met in the state championship after winning the respective North and South titles. The final ended up being a 3-0 Laker victory at Hermon High School, after the two squads met twice in the regular season with Greenville winning both games.

In the first of two scheduled contests this year PCHS came out on top with three goals in the first half and two more in the second to win 5-0 and improve to 2-0 (Greenville fell to 0-4).

The team upped its record to 3-0 with a 8-0 victory over Penquis Valley High School on Monday evening.

In the game’s opening minutes on Sept. 13 junior Jacob Knowles put the ball in play on a corner kick from the right, the first of a dozen corner kicks for the Pirates who also prevented the Lakers from having any.

Just over two minutes later Lander got the assist as he passed to sophomore Oliva Luckovskis on his goal. Lander broke through the defense and his low shot to the left landed inside the post for a 3-0 lead on his second goal of the opening half.

In the second half Lander picked up assist No. 2 on a goal by senior Brady Gaw and Luckovskis found the goal for a second time for the fifth and final Pirate goal. Freshman Kolbin Thurlow got the assist.
