Final preparations underway for second annual Walk for Hope

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Northern Light Mayo Hospital will welcome cancer survivors, caregivers, friends and family to the Maine Highlands on Saturday, Sept. 20 for the second annual Walk for Hope to strengthen cancer care services close to home.

The 5K walk supports Northern Light Cancer Care services at the Tracy Hibbard Kasprzak Cancer Treatment Center, the only cancer treatment center in the region. The center is named in memory of Tracy Hibbard Kasprzak, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and nurse whose 15-year battle with cancer inspired patients, survivors, caregivers and the community.

WALK FOR HOPE — Last year’s inaugural Walk for Hope featured more than 200 participants raising over $31,000 to support the Tracy Hibbard Kasprzak Cancer Treatment Center at Northern Light Mayo Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. This year’s event will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, 897 West Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft.

The highlight of the event is a non-competitive 5K walk around Dover-Foxcroft. Participants can also enjoy food, music, activities for kids and families, and an opportunity to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have been lost to cancer. Everyone who has been affected by cancer is invited — families, friends, medical professionals and patients.

Every dollar raised will stay local to support patient-focused needs and overcoming barriers to care. Nearly 250 walkers are expected to attend.

The event will kick off at 9 a.m. at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, 897 West Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft. To learn more, please visit http://northernlighthealth.org/WalkForHope.
