Foxcroft scores nine times in win at Hermon

HERMON — Foxcroft Academy field hockey was more than ready for the start of the 2025 regular season as the Ponies scored nine times in a 9-1 on the artificial turf at Hermon High School’s Pottle Field in a mutual opener on Saturday morning, Sept. 6.

The Ponies split the goals five/four between the two halves and had an 18-1 penalty corner advantage over the Class B North Hawks. The nine goals are the most for Foxcroft in at least several years, per the Maine Principals’ Association archives.

Freshman Addie Rayfield and junior Jenna Hartford both picked up a hat trick and Hartford assisted on two of Rayfield’s goals for a hand in five of the nine.

NINE GOAL-GAME — Foxcroft Academy freshman Addie Rayfield sends the ball toward sophomore Ava Dunton positioned in front of the goal, with junior Jenna Hartford looking on, during the 2025 opener at Hermon High School on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 6. The Ponies scored nine goals with Rayfield and Hartford picking up three goals apiece.

In the first quarter Hartford brought the ball down the right of the Hermon side of the field and she passed to Rayfield whose shot from in front of the goal went in at the 7:59-mark.  Just over two minutes later Hartford again brought the ball up and this time she took the shot herself and got what would turn out to be game-winner .

Hermon scored off the team’s lone corner early in the second, but Foxcroft responded with three straight before the break. Hartford, sophomore Ava Dunton and Rayfield each had a goal with Dunton assisting on Hartford’s second.

Rayfield and Hartford both got to the 3-goal mark in the fourth – while assisting on the other’s goal — inbetween goals from freshman Emma Crossman and then senior Jadenne Frigon to close out the scoring.
