Here’s what the average Maine house price gets you in each county

The average cost of a single family home in Maine now stands at $425,000, the latest data show.

That’s the highest home prices in Maine have been in at least a decade. In 2015, the average home in Maine sold for slightly more than $180,000, 135 percent lower than now, according to the Maine Association of Realtors. 

But what that can get you varies greatly throughout the state.

Here’s what you can buy for roughly $425,000 in each county in Maine, listed alphabetically.

Androscoggin 

— Mechanic Falls, ranch with a large deck, $405,000 

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch offers more than 1,600 square feet of living space with a large back porch, a spacious basement and an attached garage. 

— Turner, farmhouse on 12 acres, $410,000 

This farmhouse in Turner was built around 1890 and has four bedrooms, one bathroom and a large working barn. The property includes nearly 12 acres and almost 400 feet of frontage on the Nezinscot River.

— Auburn, six-bedroom cape, $414,000 

This Auburn property features a six-bedroom, two bathroom Cape Cod style house with 3,000 square feet of living space and a fenced-in backyard and an attached one-car garage.

Aroostook 

— Caribou, five-bedroom cape, $415,000

A recently renovated five-bedroom, four-bathroom home with 1,960 square feet of living space that overlooks Caribou is available for $415,000. 

— Fort Kent, renovated farmhouse with river views, $415,000

This 2,200-square-foot farmhouse in Fort Kent offers three bedrooms, three bathrooms, an attached two-car garage and a fenced-in backyard with a deck and fire pit. 

— Portage Lake, year-round lake house, $425,000

A 1,360-square foot house with one-bedroom, two-bathrooms, 100 feet of frontage on Portage Lake is available for $425,000. The property also has insulation and heat, making it suitable to be a year-round home. 

Cumberland 

— Portland, a West End condo, $420,000

This 695-square foot condo in Portland’s West End has one bedroom, one bathroom and two off-street parking spaces. 

— Brunswick, three-bedroom near Cook’s Corner, $425,000

Ten minutes from downtown Brunswick, this roughly 1,250-square-foot three-bedroom, two-bathroom home features a fenced-in backyard. 

— Bridgton, renovated two-bedroom farmhouse $425,000

This renovated farmhouse has nearly 1,700 square feet of living space, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a wraparound front porch. 

Franklin 

— Rangeley, 700-square-foot cottage, $425,000 

Built in 2021, this two-bedroom, one-bathroom home in a private neighborhood has roughly 700 square feet of living space. 

— Chesterville, ranch on 10 acres with lake access, $425,000 

This 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch has a detached two-car garage and sits on more than 10 wooded acres. The property also has deeded access to a common lakefront access to Parker Pond. 

— Rangeley, 1,850-square-foot loft, $425,000 

This roughly 1,850-square-foot loft space, which has a kitchen and bathroom, sits above a two-car garage and was once home to knitter’s and weaver’s school. 

Hancock 

— Ellsworth, three-bedroom ranch, $420,000 

With nearly 2,100 square feet of living space, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch house has an elevated back porch and finished walk-out basement. 

— Blue Hill, two-bedroom contemporary home, $425,000 

This 1,400-square-foot home with two bedrooms and two bathrooms has a two-car garage and a fenced-in yard with an outdoor shower. 

— Ellsworth, two-bedroom near downtown, $425,000 

Around the corner from downtown Ellsworth, this two-bedroom, one-bathroom ranch has nearly 2,000 square feet of living space and a one-car garage.

Kennebec 

— Mount Vernon, three-bedroom on nearly five acres, $419,000

With three bedrooms and three bathrooms, this 2,150-square-foot home sits on 4.75 acres and has a two-car garage, sunroom and cold root cellar with built-in shelving.

— Augusta, ranch on 74 acres, $425,000

In Augusta, $425,000 will buy a three-bedroom, three-bathroom ranch with roughly 1,240 square feet of living space, a detached two-car garage and more than 74 acres.

— China, seasonal lakeside cottage, $425,000 

This roughly 700-square-foot seasonal cottage offers two bedrooms, one bathroom and has 90 feet of frontage on China Lake. 

Knox 

— Washington, one-bedroom A-frame, $425,000 

With 120 feet of private frontage on Washington Pond, this one-bedroom, one-bathroom A-frame has slightly less than 600 feet of living space and a large back deck. 

— Washington, updated farmhouse on six acres, $425,000 

Built in the 1890s, this renovated farmhouse offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms and more than 2,100 square feet of living space on six acres. The property also includes a 40-by-60-foot barn. 

— Rockland, three-bedroom salt box, $425,000 

A less than 10-minute drive from downtown, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom salt box style home has nearly 1,600 square feet of living space, a detached two-car garage and a back deck.

Lincoln 

— Edgecomb, ranch with a wraparound porch, $419,000 

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch on nearly two acres has slightly less than 1,200 square feet of living space, a wraparound porch that leads to a back deck, and a finished, walk-out basement. 

— Boothbay, two-bedroom Cape, $425,000 

Built in the 1870s, this Cape Cod style home on nearly seven acres has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a two-car garage and slightly more than 1,000 square feet of living space. 

— Dresden, riverfront cottage with a cabana, $425,000 

With nearly 800 square feet of living space, this one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage sits on the Eastern River. Aside from a dock, the property has a cabana overlooking the river with a bar equipped with power. 

Oxford 

— Fryeburg, three-bedroom raised ranch, $425,000 

With more than 1,300 square feet of living space, this three-bedroom, two bathroom raised ranch has a two-car detached garage and slightly more than an acre that abuts the Fryeburg Recreation Department.

— Andover, renovated Colonial, $425,000 

This four-bedroom, two-bathroom renovated Colonial sits on an acre and has nearly 2,000 square feet of living space and two covered porches. 

— Newry, one-bedroom condo, $425,000 

This one-bedroom, one bathroom condo in the Sunday River Resort has less than 600 square feet of living space, but has a deck and direct trail access, among other amenities within the complex. 

Penobscot 

— Hudson, three-bedroom with a pool, $420,000  

This updated farmhouse has three bedrooms, one bathroom and more than 2,100 square feet of living space on more than 15 acres. The property also has a two-car garage and an in-ground pool. 

— Bangor, five-bedroom Colonial, $425,000 

This five-bedroom house has more than 3,200 square feet of living space and two two-car garages. 

— Bangor, four-bedroom Garrison with a pool, $425,000 

Situated in Bangor’s Pine Ledge subdivision, this four-bedroom, three-bathroom home offers nearly 2,600 square feet of living space, a two-car garage with a detached third garage bay and an in-ground pool. 

Piscataquis 

— Blanchard Township, two-bedroom Cape on Whetstone Pond, $410,900

This two-bedroom, one-bathroom home sits on an acre and has frontage on Whetstone Pond. 

— Dover-Foxcroft, updated two-bedroom Victorian, $399,000 

Built in 1870, this updated Victorian has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and more than 2,100 square feet of living space. The property also has a two-story two-car garage that’s finished and climate controlled.

— Abbot, Dutch Colonial on 44 acres, $399,000 

This two-bedroom, one-bathroom home has nearly 1,300 square feet of living space and garage space for three vehicles.

Sagadahoc 

— Arrowsic, two-bedroom ranch, $419,000 

This two-bedroom, one-bathroom ranch has a two-car garage, 1,250 square feet of living space and a two-car garage. 

— Phippsburg, two-bedroom Cape with a covered deck, $420,000 

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom property was once a camp site then renovated to become a year-round home. 

— Bowdoinham, renovated five-bedroom, $425,000 

This fully renovated 2,800-square-foot Cape Cod-style home has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a private entrance on the second floor.

Somerset 

— Skowhegan, restored 1906 Victorian, $419,000

— Jackman, three-bedroom Cape, $420,000

Waldo

— Isleboro, 2,500-square-foot former schoolhouse, $425,000 

This building with two bathrooms, which is made up of two large rooms, was once a schoolhouse and is now used as an art gallery. 

Washington

This roughly 1,270-square-foot home has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and sits on nearly four acres. 

— Eastport, three-bedroom Victorian, $419,000 

Built in 1900, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom updated Victorian has more than 2,900 square feet of living space and a large covered porch.  

York

— Kennebunkport, 775-square-foot condo, $425,000 

This 775-square-foot condo sits on the second floor and offers two bedrooms, one bathroom and a covered porch.
