Center Theatre to host free concert series

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts announced that thanks to the generosity of the Bangor Savings Bank Corporate Giving Program, they will be hosting a free community concert series starting on Saturday, Aug. 30.

The first concert in the series will feature Firefly the Hybrid, a Penobscot Native who performs traditional music as well as cutting edge musical compositions. On Saturday, Sept. 20 legendary Canadian songstress Joan Kennedy will perform in Dover-Foxcroft. The following month Erica Brown and Matt Shipman’s band Darlin’ Corey will play on Oct. 25. And to round out the series, the award-winning multinational girl’s chorus Pihcintu will return to the Center Theatre for their second performance on Oct. 25, this time accompanied by Barundi band, Akiwacu. All concerts will be free to the public and will begin at 3 p.m.

The concert series was the brainchild of Portland-based musician, performer and producer Con Fullam.

“I had wanted to create a free concert series to highlight some of the amazing musicians in our state,” Fullam said. “I had the pleasure to visit the Center Theatre when Pihcintu played there in the spring of 2024 and it seemed like the perfect venue for the series. The last piece of the puzzle was to find a funder who wanted to celebrate music and community. The Bangor Savings Bank is doing that and so much more, we can’t thank them enough.”

While all four concerts are free to the public, seating is limited so the Center Theatre suggests going online to www.CenterTheatre.org or calling the Theatre at 207-564-8943 to reserve your tickets ahead of time.

The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to engage and inspire by making arts, education and entertainment accessible to our rural communities.
