Deputy Wilson promoted to corporal
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The newly created position of corporal with the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office will be filled by longtime Deputy Kyle Wilson. The promotion was approved by the Piscataquis County Commissioners during a June 3 meeting.
The corporal position has been created as part of the new union contract, Sheriff Robert Young explained. Two officers applied and the interview board recommended Wilson, with Young concurring.
Wilson has been with the sheriff’s department for a dozen years following a few years with the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department and being in Brownville prior. Wilson is a “just a very good officer, has been with us for 12 years,” Young said, saying Wilson is a firearms instructor.
In other business, Young said there is a patrol opening as the candidate has injuries preventing him from attending the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro. The candidate is able to work in the Piscataquis County Jail.
Retired state trooper Christopher Cyr inquired about any part-time patrol positions and he has been hired, Young said. “He’s a good officer, comes highly recommended,” the sheriff said.
Cyr will work summer weekends in Greenville. The town is letting him stay at the public safety building with its room and kitchen.
“That for us is really good because there will be someone up there most weekends this summer,” Young said, with the hope of Cyr working into the fall.
