
Foxcroft track has seven first-place performances
ORONO — The Foxcroft Academy boys outdoor track & field team scored 147 points to finish second among a field of six teams at a May 15 Penobscot Valley Conference meet at Orono High School. The Ponies trailed only the 184 points for the host school.
Junior Aiden Bryant swept the hurdles and he was a part of the winning 4×100 relay.
As the only 110-meter hurdle entrant, Bryant earned top honors in 18.64 seconds. He was first of two at 300 meters in 46.03 seconds. Bryant also had a fourth-place javelin throw at 112 feet, 4 inches.
The Pony 4×100 relay, comprised of junior Sebastian Guman, Bryant and juniors Landon Smith and Conner Donahue, won in 48.06 seconds. This was the only such boys relay running on May 15.
Donahue had the day’s top time in the 100, winning in 11.67 seconds as the sole sprinter to break the 12-second mark. He also came in second in the long jump at a distance measuring 20-06.
Sophomore Pace Jarrett placed second in the 400 at 59.17 seconds. He was also sixth in the 800 at 2:32.35.
Smith came in second in the triple jump standings at 37-10. He was also fourth in the long jump at 19-01.
Senior Jaxson Zimmerman ended up as the shot put runner-up with his throw of 41-11.75. Senior Chhoterith Tycheatvisoth was right behind in third place at 38-10.
Sophomore Ethen Eakright came in second in the javelin with his throw of 116-06.
Senior Shane Birungi’s time of 25.23 seconds put him in third place in the 200, with Guman fourth at 25.37 seconds. Birungi was also third in the high jump at 5-04, while Guman came in third in the 100 at 12.48 seconds.
The Ponies had the next two high jump spots with junior Madi Sapakov clearing 5-04 for fourth place and freshman Nicholas McCorrison jumped 5-02 for fifth place.
Freshman Tristan Brunner came in third in the 400 at 1:00.05 while sophomore Carter Strachle was sixth in 1:05.28.
Senior Runner Jarrett placed fourth in the 800 at 2:25.10 and fifth in the 3,200 at 11:34.99.
Freshman Nikolas Heretakis and senior Khoa Ho were fifth and sixth in the javelin standings at 107-60 and 102-11 respectively. Ho finished sixth in the 100 at 12.69 seconds.
Sophomore Joseph Knapp was sixth in the 1,600 with his time of 5:02.41.
The boys from Penquis Valley High School picked up 30 points in Orono to come in fifth among the half dozen teams.
Patriot junior Jareth Williams won the 200 in 24.71 seconds, over a quarter of a second better than the 25.07 for runner-up Orono senior Jay Tweedie. Williams also came in second in the 100 with his time of 12.03 seconds.
Senior Lucas Chai finished third in the triple jump standings at a distance of 36-04.50. He was also sixth in the long jump at 17-05.
Junior Sean Chenkin placed in three events. He came in fifth in the long jump at 17-06 and fifth in the 100 at 12.64 seconds as well as being sixth in the 200 at 26.21 seconds.
In the girls’ meet, Foxcroft Academy scored 50 points to come in fifth among six schools.
Pony senior Alexis Heretakis won both the 100 and 200. Her time of 13.48 seconds in the 100 was fastest, just ahead of the 13.56 seconds for Houlton High School/Hodgdon High School freshman Keitanya Kepple, as was her 28.05 seconds at 200 meters — ahead of 28.22 seconds for Central High School of Corinth junior Mary Allen.
Heretakis anchored the second-place 4×100 relay as freshman Lexi Bjornson, sophomore Violet Chai, freshman Zoey Eakright and Heretaksi covered the lap around the track in 56.35 seconds. Heretakis was also third in the long jump at 15-11.
Sophomore Jasmine Hall won the shot put with her throw of 33-09.25, having the top measurement by over 3-07.
Hall was also second in both the discus and javelin at respective distances of 75-04 and 86-08.
Bjornson came in fourth in the 300 hurdles at 1:06.73.
Senior Nina Huber had a fifth-place performance in the 800 at 2:48.70.
Chai was sixth in the 100 in 14.41 seconds.
The Penquis girls recorded a score of 31 points to finish fifth.
Junior Brooklyn Decker came in second in the shot put at 30-02.50. She also finished fourth in the javelin standings with a throw measuring 76-01.
Sophomore Ava Shoopman placed second in the 400 at 1:14.18. Senior Kayla Hatt was next in third place at 1:14.76. Hatt was also sixth in the 1,600 at 6:15.19.
Senior Kalea Gahagan had a third-place shot put throw at 24-07.25.
Junior Amara Driscoll came in third in the discus at 73-11 and she was fifth in the javelin at exactly 76 feet.
Senior Naima Ali placed in both the discus and shot put, having sixth-place distances in each at 68-04 and 23-03.75.
Freshman Ashley Ladd was sixth in the 200 at 30.09 seconds.
