Grade 6 social studies teacher Emily Brown shared, “Teamwork, a word you probably hear all the time, and you will continue to hear throughout your life. Someone who values teamwork often can find success in a multitude of settings. Almost every job requires it, being part of a family demands it, and being a good friend usually calls for it. The student the sixth grade team chose values teamwork and expects it not only of himself, but of others. This student has continued to show his growth as a leader as well as a learner all year. He sees the importance in hearing everyone’s ideas and making sure the workload is divided equally. His thoughtfulness of others comes out in many ways, including welcoming new faces to a group and thinking of others before himself.”

Grade 7 science teacher Kendrah Fisher shared, “It is my pleasure to recognize a student who has shown outstanding teamwork and leadership in our school community for this month’s Student in the Spotlight Award. Teamwork is more than just working alongside others — it’s about listening, supporting and lifting each other up. The student that the seventh grade team has chosen to recognize demonstrates all of these qualities every single day. In all aspects of her involvement here at SeDoMoCha, whether it be the classroom, recess or on the playing field, this student is able to help make sure that everyone has a chance to be included. She shows patience, empathy and a true commitment to shared success among her and her peers. Her classmates know they can count on her to step up when needed, but also to step back and make space for others to shine. She leads by example, always encouraging her peers and creating an environment where every voice matters. Her actions remind us that when we support one another and work together, we can achieve more than we ever could alone. Please join me in congratulating Kaydiense Nelson for her incredible spirit of teamwork. You are a role model to us all, and we are so proud of the kindness and leadership you bring to our school each and every day. “

Grade 1 teacher Greta Luellen shared, “When the first grade team was thinking about this month’s student in the spotlight, this student instantly came to mind. This student leads by example in all SOAR areas and is a great role model. In first grade we often talk about how our classroom is like a family. We spend so much time together that it is truly important to be a team and have teamwork amongst our room. Teamwork means helping each other, sharing ideas, and working together while achieving common goals. This student demonstrates this daily in our classroom.  He is the first to help a friend in need, loves making sure everyone is involved and is always eager to share his thoughts and ideas, but is also a great listener. He models how to be respectful to his peers and adults, while always communicating in an appropriate way. He has such a positive outlook each day that is truly contagious. I love sharing my days with him and it has been such a pleasure having him as a student this year. ”

Grade 2 teacher Cecelia Dube shared, “The second grade team is excited to give this Month’s student in the spotlight award to someone who is a great teammate everyday! This student can always be seen helping others, truly listening to their friends and teachers, and making sure everyone always feels included. This student works so hard and is the biggest supporter to all of his classmates. I am so grateful to have this student in my class and I know that his family and all of his friends are so proud of him.”

Grade 3 teacher Alanna Wilson is Staff in the Spotlight honoree for April.

Assistant Principal Davan Walker shared, “This month’s Staff in the Spotlight focuses on communication. Communication is critically important for educators because it underpins nearly every aspect of effective teaching and student success. These educators have demonstrated effective communication and are our nominees this month: special education educational technician Elizabeth Martin, SeDoMoCha ESL teacher Ramona Mattox, middle School special education teacher Sharon McCourt and third grade teacher Alanna Wilson.

“This month’s Staff Spotlight shines on someone who is a tremendous asset to our school community. She consistently demonstrates exceptional communication skills. She uses them to support classroom management, build strong relationships with students and staff, and enhance student learning — all while modeling effective communication for her students every day. She is also a strong advocate for her students, frequently speaking up in meetings to ensure their needs are heard and addressed. We are thrilled to recognize Ms. Wilson for her outstanding communication and commitment to our school community. Thank you, Ms. Wilson!”
