
Decker, Kelley win events at PVC meet
ORONO — The Piscataquis Community High School and Penquis Valley High School outdoor track & field teams took part in a Penobscot Valley Conference meet on May 2 at Orono High School. The Pirate girls came in a field of third of five schools with a score of 23 points, while the Patriots were close behind in fourth place with 18 points.
PCHS’ Sadie Kelley had the top 1,600 racewalk performance. Kelley turned in a winning time of 9 minutes, 47.40 seconds, well over a minute ahead of the 11:04.22 for runner-up Brooke Wentworth of the host Red Riots.
Judith Jannsen came in second in the triple jump at a distance measuring 30 feet, 6 inches.
Two Pirate relays were third. The PCHS 4×100, made up of Kelley, Hailee Marshall, Molly Goodwin and Jannsen, ran a time of 9.83 seconds. The 4×400 relay — Kelley, Olivia Goodwin, Molly Goodwin and Jannsen — was third at 5:01.13.
Olivia Goodwin had a fifth-place finish in the discus with her throw of 65-05.
For Penquis, Brooklyn Decker earned top honors in both the shot put and discus.
Decker won the shot put at a distance of 27-10, 2-09 further than the 25-01 for Hampden Academy’s Allison Shaw.
A distance of 83-03 gave Decker first place in the discus, just about four feet more than the 79-04 for Kate Higgins of Orono. Penquis’ Naima Ali was fourth in the discus at 67-05.
In the boys’ meet, it was Penquis in fourth place among five teams with 11 points and PCHS was fifth with two points.
The Patriots’ Lucas Chai came in second in the triple jump with his distance of 3609.
Jareth Williams placed fourth in both the 100 and 200 at 12.04 and 25 seconds.
For PCHS, Phoenix Brown was fifth in the triple jump at 35-09.
