Dessert auction for Rape Response Services

BANGOR — Rape Response Services, a Penquis subsidiary, will be hosting a dessert auction on Nov. 22. The fun-filled event will have over 70 delicious desserts made by local Maine bakers which will be ready to be taken home and enjoyed.

The dessert auction will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn, 250 Haskell Road in Bangor, on Friday, Nov. 22. Doors open at 6 p.m. There is no entry fee for the event and some refreshments will be served. Cash, checks, and online payments will all be accepted during the event.

The funds raised by the dessert auction will support advocacy and prevention services throughout Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. “Last Year, Rape Response Services served 447 individuals who were affected by sexual assault,” says Tamar Mathieu, executive director of Rape Response Services. “Through contributing to this event, our community is not only helping to fund services and make sure survivors receive physical items they need in a time of crisis but is also showing survivors that they have support and are not alone.”

According to Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault, one in five Mainers will experience sexual assault at some point in their lifetime. Rape Response Services provides advocacy (one- to-one support) to survivors via their 24/7 helpline, accompaniment to hospital, law enforcement, medical, and court appointments, and referrals to other supportive services, such as legal assistance, medical follow-up, and counseling services. Outreach, education, and prevention efforts are designed to provide children, adults, and communities in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties with the tools needed to address and prevent sexual violence.

The dessert auction is sponsored by NDC Communications and Bangor Savings Bank. For more information, contact Amanda Chambers at 207- 947-2436.
