Foxcroft and Dexter runners qualify for state X-C championships
BELFAST — Five runners between the Foxcroft Academy and Dexter Regional High School cross country teams earned berths in Saturday’s Class C championships by virtue of their performances at the Class C North finals on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Troy Howard Middle School.
In the boys’ meet, Foxcroft Academy senior Runner Jarrett covered the 5K course in a time of 18 minutes, 5.1 seconds. This was good for 13th place among a field of 87 entrants. The top 30 individual finishers earn state championship berths and Jarrett qualified for the third consecutive season (running at the Class C championship a year ago and the B finals in 2022).
Pony sophomore Pace Jarrett came in 16th with his time of 18:07.81, to also earn a berth in the state championship. Jarrett ran in last year’s Class C championship.
Foxcroft sophomore Ethen Eakright placed 38th at Belfast with a time of 20:08.49.
Orono High School senior Ben Arsenault won the race in 16:40.75, besting second place by more than 22 seconds.
Arsenault helped the Red Riots finish first among 11 full teams with a score of 23 points. The other five Northern Maine qualifiers for the state championship are regional runner-up Houlton High School/Greater Houlton Christian Academy with 77 points; third place George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill with 79 points; fourth place Narraguagus High School of Harrington with 117 points; fifth place Sumner Memorial High School of Sullivan with 146 points; and sixth place Bucksport High School with its 171 points.
In the girls’ meet Dexter freshman Ella McClintock-Hatch ran the course in 23:19.84, good for ninth place among 55 entrants. McClintock-Hatch earned a berth in the Class C championship.
Tiger junior Annabelle Peakes also qualified for next weekend by finishing in the top 30. She was 27th with her time of 24;45.99.
Foxcroft senior Nina Huber came in 23rd at 24:27 to earn a Class C championship spot.
Pony sophomore Marion Deitz placed 42nd at the Class C North race with her time of 27:50.98.
Houlton/GHCA senior Teanne Ewings earned top regional honors by running a time of 18:17.30, about 35 seconds before the second-place finisher.
Houlton/GHCA claimed the team title with 23 points. All four full girls teams qualified for states with George Stevens Academy coming in second with 47 points, followed by 60 Narraguagus, and 111 points for fourth place Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.
The Class C championships will be held at the Twin Brook Recreation Area in Cumberland on Saturday, Nov. 2. The boys race is scheduled for 11 a.m. with 11:40 a.m. girls start. The day includes the boys and girls Class A and Class B races.
