PRYMCA closure will be a great loss to the community

To the Editor;

What? Wait, the Piscataquis Regional YMCA is closing? No, it’s closed! I have been swimming there for over 20 years and have met many wonderful people and established relationships with  lifeguards.

I paid my dues Friday morning, Oct. 4 and swam in nice warm water. Upon leaving, I chatted with the receptionist (a dear friend) and was on my merry way.

Later in the day I got a call from a friend asking if I had heard about the Y. I hadn’t. She has heard it was closed, not closing, closed! No time to say goodbye to anyone. They could have given members a week to say farewells!

The fitness room was always busy, I used it myself in the past. The pool was full of swimmers (we need the water exercise) and a large group of exercisers and another exercise group on land later.

Many children are in child care, They had children’s swimming as well. Where do the kids go now? A weekend to find another child care?

The Y closing will be a great loss to the community. Hopefully some private entity will take it over or even Foxcroft Academy. They do have a swim program,

We senior citizens need a place to swim!
