Free child car seat inspections to be offered during Child Passenger Safety Week

DOVER-FOXCROFT — In recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week, Northern Light Mayo Hospital, Northern Light Medical Transport, and the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety are partnering to offer free car seat safety checks at the Mayo Hospital Ambulance Garage, 5 Dwelley Avenue, on Sunday, Sept. 15. The expert technicians at this event will check for recalls and thoroughly evaluate car seats to ensure they are the right size and are installed correctly.

The safety checks take about 15 minutes and are ideal for families who are unsure if they are using their car seat correctly, may have an incorrect size seat for their child, or do not know if their car seat has ever been recalled.

“It’s very important for parents to get their child safety seats checked out, because a correctly used car seat can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent,” says Maged Shahin, a child passenger safety technician at Mayo Hospital. “It only takes a few minutes to ensure proper installation, learn some helpful tips and tricks, and get your questions answered.”

The safety checks will be available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary and safety checks are offered first come, first served. Organizers encourage you to bring your child and know their weight for a perfect seat fit. For more information, please contact Shahin at 207-271-5271.
