According to officials with the National Weather Service, no damage was found in Piscataquis County from a suspected tornado after Sunday’s storm.
A bulletin released at around 6 p.m. on Monday evening says that meteorologists with the NWS Caribou office were not able to find any conclusive damage to paved and dirt roads north of Haynesville and southeast of Sherman.
However, officials say that this does not mean tornado conditions weren’t possible or that it did not occur, just that there was no damage to property due to tornado winds.
Winds on Sunday were strong enough to overturn people’s canoes and unsecured items outside, and trees were downed across western and southern Maine, resulting in numerous power outages throughout Central Maine Power’s service area.
The NWS station in Caribou had issued a tornado warning on Sunday for portions of southeastern Aroostook County, including North Amity, Haynesville and Orient, along with numerous severe thunderstorm warnings across Maine.
