Salute to outgoing EMDC Chair Tremble: A legacy of dedication and service
BANGOR — Dan Tremble has concluded his term as board chair but will continue as a valued board member of Eastern Maine Development Corporation. Tremble, a longtime member of the board, was elected as chair in May 2021. The Executive Committee is finalizing the appointment of his successor.
“I’ve had the privilege of serving on this board for over two decades and during that time, I’ve come to understand and appreciate the role of chair. Dan has an extraordinary ability to be able to communicate with the board, but also in your role of communicating with the director of the organization. Under Dan’s leadership, we all have just seen how effective this organization is and should be,” said board member and former state senator Dennis Damon.

Tremble’s story is one of dedication and service. Growing up in Bangor, he graduated from Bangor High School and earned a degree in public administration from the University of Maine. His commitment to our community has been evident throughout his career. He began his public service on the Bangor City Council, where he served two terms from 1999 to 2005, holding the position of council chair in 2004. His leadership skills were again recognized when he was elected chair of the Bangor City Council in November 2020.
Former Penobscot County Commissioner and board member Laura Sanborn said, “I got to know Dan well by watching him gain knowledge from Commissioner Tom Davis with their shared commitment to Eastern Maine Development Corporation. With his loan, board, finance committee, and his county treasurer experience he really identified where the needs were in the whole area, not just Bangor and Penobscot County.”
Beyond his roles in city government, Tremble was the treasurer for Penobscot County from 2006-18, managing the county’s finances with integrity and efficiency. His leadership extended to the business community, where he also served as board chair for the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce and Penquis. Among many business enterprises, he has owned and operated Fairmount Market since 1996.
Lee Umphrey, EMDC president & CEO, said, “I first met Dan as a newly elected Bangor city councilor and me on the city staff in 1999. Since then, while becoming friends, I have seen Dan’s innate ability to make things work, not only in the community but within our organization. He became board chair three years ago and played an essential role in the financial turnaround of EMDC.”
Tremble’s leadership and passion have made Bangor a better place for all.
