On Saturday evening Perkins will be ‘Dancing Like the Stars’

BANGOR — Dolly Perkins resides in Brownville. She is the mother of 10 children and grandmother of one. With seven daughters, breast cancer is a cause that is very near and dear to her family. To help the cause, former U.S. Army Sgt. Perkins is trading in her combat boots for heels for the Susan G. Komen Maine’s Dancing Like the Stars event on March 9 … and is praying that she doesn’t trip.

Perkins is the branch owner/broker of the Brownville Realty of Maine office, and is a member of the Maine Association of Realtors and numerous civic organizations which have included the Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine, the Maine Farmland Trust and others.
Fans can support Perkins by purchasing tickets to the show and/or voting for her at $1 per vote. You don’t have to wait until the night of the event, however. Dancers are collecting “votes of confidence” prior to the event online. Vote for Perkins at http://maine.info-komen.org/goto/dolly_perkins  or purchase tickets to the show at http://www.komenmaine.org
Susan G. Komen Maine’s Dancing Like the Stars will take place on Saturday, March 9 at the Gracie Theatre at Husson University. Tickets will be sold both prior to and at the door of the event.
Eight local celebrity dancers will compete for the top prize along with dance coaches provided by the Back Door Dance Studio. In addition to Perkins, 2013 dancers are Allen Adams from The Maine Edge, Andre Cushing, state senator and from ERA Dawson Bradford, Andrew Hamilton from Eaton Peabody, John Osborne from Hollywood Casino, Dorian Daniels from I-95, Melissa Kim from WLBZ-2 and Nichi Farnham, a local community leader.
Due to the annual success of the Race for the Cure and other fundraising efforts such as Dancing Like the Stars, the Komen Maine Affiliate has invested nearly $2.6 million for education, screening and treatment programs and over $750,000 for breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program. The community grants program is the backbone of the local affiliate, but their impact reaches far beyond those programs, including breast health education offerings and community organizing.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Promise: to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. For additional information about the Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, visit their website at www.komenmaine.org or find them on Facebook (facebook.com/komenmaine) and Twitter (@komenmaine).
