Dover-Foxcroft Firefighters Association Ice Fishing Derby results
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The 13th annual Dover-Foxcroft Firefighters Association Ice Fishing Derby took place on Sebec Lake Feb. 24-25.
Rick Pembroke announced the winners on Sunday afternoon at the Greeley’s Landing weigh station with the winners’ names and catch statistics posted on a leaderboard.
He said John Moore took top honors and a $600 prize with his lunker weighing 16.205 pounds and measuring 36.5 inches. “It was a wicked fish,” Pembroke said. “He didn’t get the record, but boy he didn’t miss it by much.”
Emmet Hill had the top catch in the junior class with his junior giant weighing 4.99 pounds and being 25.5 inches in length. Hill won a $200 and auger for his prize.
Pembroke said Hill came in hugging his fish with its tail wagging and body going the other way and compared to Hill the catch was“almost as long as he was tall.”
Reading aloud other winners Pembroke said the first-place salmon “was a very healthy Sebec Lake salmon, that was a beautiful big, fat fish so things are good.”
He said Zach Dever had the winning perch and mentioned the Dever family buys a number of derby tickets and has put a lot of fish on the board over the years.
“Forty-eight fish were registered and we heard about a lot more caught than that,” Pembroke said.
He said Ella Foss had the biggest pickerel among junior anglers at 2.475 pounds and 21 inches. Foss won a Loring basket and trap set worth about $400.
The prizes will help the youngsters continue. “If you can keep them fishing the tradition goes on,” Pembroke said.
“That’s it for this year, we hope to see you next year and thank you for your participation,” he concluded.
