Milo Garden Club news
MILO — On Tuesday, June 6 Milo Garden Club members held the final meeting of the club’s 93rd year. The monthly meetings will resume in September.
During the June meeting, Wendy Bailey and Juanita Swazey were commended for their recent participation in the Black Fly Festival in Milo. In wet and windy weather, both members cheerfully shared information with visitors about Milo Garden Club as well as giving away 120 seedlings grown by Bailey in her new greenhouse.
Also discussed at the June meeting was the creation of a “roots in the community” program. This would offer people of all ages, who can not attend the club’s monthly meetings, an opportunity to enjoy gardening in the community. The club’s civic development committee welcomes volunteer help tending to the many public plantings and gardens in Milo. The plan is to create a list of willing helpers, which will include their phone numbers and emails. Then the committee will contact them when it’s time to plant!
Also discussed at the meeting were program ideas for the 2023-24 year. Of the several thoughts suggested, local conservation and recycling was a topic of great interest.
Finally, the annual Summer Plant Sale and Fair, scheduled for Thursday, Aug, 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., was discussed. Expect to find perennials, house plants, fresh produce, baked goods, silent auction items, raffles, puzzles, and returning after a long hiatus are books and crafts. Visitors can also enjoy a luncheon purchased by donation. Hope to see you there!
