Matt’s Garage will repair ‘anything that comes in the door’

    SANGERVILLE — After many years of working for auto dealerships, some of which required a daily round trip to Bangor, Matt Blockler decided to go into business for himself.

    BIG INVESTMENT — Matt Blockler has invested thousands of dollars in tools and equipment to open his new garage on North Dexter Road in Sangerville.

    He recently opened his own repair shop in the old Moulton’s Garage on North Dexter Road in his hometown of Sangerville.
    “It was vacant for 18 years,” Blockler said. “But it’s in good shape and in a great location. We’ll get some signage pretty soon, but we want to get the word out that we’re in business.”
    Blockler is a graduate of Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford and studied automotive technology at Eastern Maine Community College. He worked for Quirk Subaru and Quirk Hyundai in Bangor before deciding to look for work closer to home.
    “My wife (Kristi) and I have four young boys and I was missing a lot of after-school activities. Most nights I wouldn’t get home ‘til around 7 p.m.,” said Blockler.

    He went to work for Guilford Motor Company for about six months until he decided to strike out on his own.
    Matt’s Garage has three bays: two with lifts and one set up for painting. “I’ll be using the paint room for rust repairs and rocker panel replacements,” he said.
    Thanks to his decade of experience, Blockler can do repairs and maintenance on all makes and models including oil changes, tune-ups, brakes, steering components and shocks and struts. He does computer diagnostics, complete replacement of engines and transmissions and is licensed to perform Maine state inspections.
    “Anything that comes in the door, I can — and will — repair,” Blockler said.
    He is also certified with the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), an independent group that tests and evaluates the competence of auto technicians.
    For do-it-yourselfers looking for a place to dispose of waste oil, bring it to Matt’s Garage since he has a waste-oil burning furnace. “It’s a beneficial way to get rid of it,” he said.
    Operating hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the new phone number is 876-2220.
