Sebec River Canoe/Kayak Race returns

After three years, the Three Rivers Kiwanis Foundation of Milo/Brownville held its annual Sebec River Canoe/Kayak Race on Saturday, May 13. The course along the Sebec River began at the Sebec Village Reading Room just below the Sebec Lake Dam and ended at the Veterans Park in Milo.

The 2023 race featured 26 paddlers in 16 boats.

START OF THE RACE — Paddlers began the Three Rivers Kiwanis Foundation of Milo/Brownville Sebec River Canoe/Kayak Race on May 13 in Sebec.

The overall winners were: first place: Ray Wirth 1 hour 6 minutes in a racing kayak; tied for second place, Mason Washburn and Tyler Grant 1:16 in a recreational canoe and Nathaniel Lovejoy and Brady Goulette 1:16 in a rec. canoe; fourth place, Mike and Laurie Sproul and Stephen Drost 1:17 in a senior/junior canoe; and tied for fifth place, Leigh Mastin and Alex Rosati 1:18 in a mixed man/woman canoe and Robert Martin and Terry Wescott 1:18 in a rec. canoe.

The rest of the field is: 7. Bob Hessler/Tammy Kelley 1:20 rec. canoe; 8. Bruce Weik 1:23 racing kayak; 9. Colin Beckett 1:27 rec. kayak; 10. Abigail Carr and Zach Carr 1:29 mixed men/woman canoe; 11. Chris Beckett 1:31 rec. kayak; 12. Devyn Wright/Chris Coover 1:40 rec. canoe; 13. Chelsea Daniels 1:43 women kayak; 14. Molly Houston 1:44 women kayak; 15. Ian Carey/Chris Dumont 1:53 rec. canoe; and 16. Joseph McKinnon 1:55 rec. kayak.
