DOVER-FOXCROFT — Piscataquis County Retired Educators met at the Bear’s Den Aug. 26 with 21 members and guests attending.
President Gil Reynolds opened the meeting and asked members to introduce their guests. After orders were taken, Reynolds introduced Lynne Snow, independent specialist for Legal Shield.

Snow explained how it works. It is described as affordable legal protection  and covers many aspects of insurance coverage — a very informative program. Snow has been in education for over 40 years. 
Reynolds asked Minnie McCormick to explain the MEA sponsored Community Day of Caring. The first year the association purchased books about 911 and put them in the libraries in the area schools.
Last year we used the money to buy school items and took them to the Charlotte White Center for their clients to purchase. MEA donates $100 to each county. It can be used in many ways. Each county chooses  what they want to do and  writes a plan  to submit to MEA.
Janice Ellis reported on the basket raffle which actually raised $325 for the Esther Pennington Scholarship.
Gloria Burns read the secretary’s report followed by the treasurer’s report by Myrna Ricker, both were accepted as read. After lunch, we returned to the topic of Community Day of Caring.  Suggestions were given and McCormick suggested we buy snacks for the schools to help out the teachers who often purchase these things with their own money, 
After some discussion it was  decided to take $150 from our treasury  and add  it to the MEA money and give the five elementary schools in the area $50  to purchase snack materials. The motion was carried.  Schools to receive the monies are Greenville, Guilford, Dover-Foxcroft and two schools in Milo.
Reynolds announced the next meeting will be Sept. 23 and then we will be in recess until the spring of 2015 with a possibility of a Christmas get together that will be announced. The meeting was adjourned.
