September Grange events

    Thursday, Sept. 4, bring your pies to the Garland Days Pie Judging Contest. Pies need to be at Garland Grange Hall, on the Oliver Hill Road, by 5:30 p.m. — judging starts at 6 p.m. Categories this year are fruit, cream, nut/meat and kids. All pie entries are used the following night at the Historical Society Pie and Ice Cream Social. Please put your name legibly on the bottom of your pie plate if you wish it returned to you.     Friday, Sept. 5 listen to the HJ Crosby Community Band Concert “British Invasion” at 6:30 p.m. at the Garland Grange Hall. Admission is by donation.
    Saturday, Sept. 6 the Valley Grange hosts the annual UMaine Extension dinner and meeting. The public Harvest Festival Supper is from 5 until 7 p.m. and features baked ham and lots of local grown veggies—mashed potato with gravy, carrots, turnip and squash, rolls/butter, coffee/tea/punch with apple crisp for dessert.
    Proceeds benefit the Piscataquis Santa Fund. The Valley Grange is located at 172 Guilford Center Road. Exhibits and demonstrations are regarding farming, gardening, and 4-H. Learn what Extension is all about and what they’ve done this year. Special presentation by U Maine Agronomist John Jemison regarding the Maine Food Strategy and how local producers fit during meeting beginning at 7 p.m. More information is at the Valley Grange website (http://valleygrange.wordpress.com) or call Extension office at 564-3301.
    Saturday, Sept. 6 the Garland Grange serves up a Garland Days baked bean supper from 5-7 p.m. at the Garland Grange Hall. Menu includes baked beans, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, homemade bread and desserts. Proceeds of all Garland Grange suppers benefit the Garland Grange New Heating System Fund. FMI 924-6954.
    Sept. 6 get your feet moving with a Family Contra Dance from 7-9 p.m. at the Garland Grange Hall, with family friendly music and you don’t even need to know how to dance — we will teach you. Caller is John McIntire and live music by Some Reel People. FMI call 277-3961 or 924-3925.
    Sunday, Sept. 7 the annual Garland Days Breakfast is served from 7-10 a.m. Stop by the Garland Grange Hall and enjoy a menu that includes eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast, juice and coffee. Proceeds to benefit Garland Grange.
    Friday, Sept. 12 the Garland Grange serves up a Baked Ham Public Supper from 5-7 p.m. at the Garland Grange Hall. Menu includes baked ham, potatoes, vegetables, homemade bread and desserts. Proceeds benefit the Garland Grange New Heating System Fund. FMI call 924-6954.
    Friday, Sept. 19 Valley Grange meets for a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by a meeting at 7 p.m. which includes the annual planning roundtable—the meeting where the next year’s programming and projects are outlined.
