ATV access, solid waste on agenda

    GREENVILLE — The Greenville Board of Selectmen has been asked to revisit two previously-requested ATV access routes in the community: passage through the downtown intersection and access along Route 15 over Indian Hill.
    Ken Snowdon, president of the Moosehead ATV Riders Club, will make a presentation to selectmen at the Wednesday, Aug. 6 meeting.

    Last December, selectmen voted to allow ATV access on Lily Bay and Scammon roads, pending approval by the Maine Department of Transportation. The permission was granted for one year only from May 15 to Nov. 15, 2014 under the same rules currently in effect for the town’s existing ATV access route on Pritham Avenue, according to the meeting minutes.
    However, another proposal to set up an ATV access route on Pleasant Street was unanimously defeated.
    The town of Greenville is hosting a meeting earlier in the day on Aug. 6 for area municipal and county officials concerning the future of solid waste disposal.
    The future of the Penobscot Energy Recovery Corporation (PERC) plant in Orrington is a topic of discussion as their energy contract comes to an end, which may negatively impact the cost of waste disposal for entities shipping to PERC, according to Town Manager John Simko. The purpose of the agenda article is to give selectmen a summary of the mid-day meeting and to answer any questions the board may have. 
    The town has also received a request from the property owners of Ledge Drive in Greenville for takeover of their subdivision road.
    To facilitate this discussion and to clarify the process for future requests, Simko has recommended that the board should agree on a procedure for clarification that road meets the town’s road as defined in the subdivision ordinance, and what documents are necessary from the subdivision owners prior to acceptance (e.g., letter of request, engineer’s report, boundary line survey, etc.). 
    The Shaw Public Library Association has secured funds necessary to construct an addition between the main building and the Davis Library Annex, as previously presented to the board by Library Trustee Dr. Ken Woodbury.
    The purpose of this agenda item is to authorize the to execute a lease on behalf of the town for use of the connector building in exchange for permission to construct it on municipal property.
