31 more Mainers have died and another 998 coronavirus cases reported across the state

Thirty-one more Mainers have died and another 998 coronavirus cases reported across the state, Maine health officials said Friday.
Friday’s report brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Maine to 230,273, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s up from 229,275 on Thursday.
Of those, 166,801 have been confirmed positive, while 63,472 were classified as “probable cases,” the Maine CDC reported.
Sixteen men and 15 women have succumbed to the virus, bringing the statewide death toll to 2,109.
Five were from Androscoggin County, seven from Aroostook County, one from Hancock County, five from Kennebec County, one from Lincoln County, three from Penobscot County, two from Piscataquis County, one from Somerset County, one from Waldo County, one from Washington County and four from York County.
Of those, eight were 80 or older, 13 were in their 70s, three in their 60s, five in their 50s and two in their 40s.
The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in the past 14 days statewide is 20,514. This is an estimation of the current number of active cases in the state, as the Maine CDC is no longer tracking recoveries for all patients. That’s down from 23,270 on Thursday.
The new case rate statewide Friday was 7.46 cases per 10,000 residents, and the total case rate statewide was 1,720.50.
The most cases have been detected in Mainers younger than 20, while Mainers over 80 years old account for the largest portion of deaths. More cases have been recorded in women and more deaths in men.
So far, 4,392 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. Information about those who are currently hospitalized wasn’t immediately available.
The total statewide hospitalization rate on Friday was 32.82 patients per 10,000 residents.
Cases have been reported in Androscoggin (22,157), Aroostook (11,970), Cumberland (47,326), Franklin (5,569), Hancock (7,083), Kennebec (22,136), Knox (5,724), Lincoln (5,012), Oxford (10,911), Penobscot (26,648), Piscataquis (2,902), Sagadahoc (4,892), Somerset (9,304), Waldo (5,867), Washington (4,128) and York (38,602) counties. Information about where an additional 42 cases were reported wasn’t immediately available.
An additional 548 vaccine doses were administered in the previous 24 hours. As of Friday, 988,883 Mainers are fully vaccinated, or about 77.2 percent of eligible Mainers, according to the Maine CDC.
As of Friday morning, the coronavirus had sickened 79,196,394 people in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as caused 956,262 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
