Lisbon edges Dexter to wins Class C championship

AUGUSTA – Lisbon claimed its fourth Class C championship since 2015 at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday.
Lisbon, the 2019 winner, edged Dexter by .25 of a point. Lisbon had 68.35 points and Dexter had 68.10. The cooperative team of Lincoln’s Mattanawcook Academy and Howland’s Penobscot Valley High School was third with 67.60 points, Winslow had 66.90 good for fourth place and rounding out the top five was 2020 champ Sumner of East Sullivann with 65.90.
Completing the top 10 in the 17-team class were Central of Corinth (65.00), Bucksport (62.40), Mountain Valley of Rumford (57.10), Calais (56.85) and Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian (55.30).
Dexter team members are Alyvia Dorman, Andrea Gilman, Amelia Greaves, Tiffany Heinrichs, Kenzie Kimball, Shelbie Poulin, Elizabeth Roberts, McKenzie Trafton, Cristin Warner, and Jennifer Young. The team is coached by Kristie Mower and her assistant is Danielle Mower.
Penobscot Valley High was the state Class D champ in the virtual state championship competition last season, but moved up to C and merged with Mattanawcook Academy this year.
Medomak Valley and Lisbon had won the Class B and Class C South regionals a week ago width Hermon and Central of Corinth being the B and C North winners.
Defending state Class C champ Monmouth Academy dropped to Class D this season and merged with Winthrop High School.
Lisbon placed a distant eighth a year ago in the virtual competition after being the runner-up in 2020.
Prior to 2019, Lisbon had earned championships in 2015 and 2017.
Monmouth Academy/Winthrop claimed the state D cheering championship at the Augusta Civic Center Saturday night.
Only five of the 17 teams in Class D statewide participated and Monmouth Academy/Winthrop posted a convincing win by 21.90 points with a score of 69.40.
Bangor Christian was second with a score of 47.50 followed by Central Aroostook of Mars Hill (39.30), Penquis of Milo (35.60) and Schenck of East Millinocket (29.90).
Monmouth Academy won the Class C state title a year ago but dropped to D this season and merged with Winthrop High School.
