Revolutionary War grave rededication scheduled for Saturday

    ABBOT — On Saturday, June 28 at 11 a.m. the Abbot Historical Society and Tisbury Manor Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a grave marking ceremony at the grave of Jacob Leeman, a private in the Revolutionary War.

GRAVE MARKING CEREMONY — A ceremony to mark the grave of Revolutionary War veteran Jacob Leeman will be held on the Leeman Road in Abbot on Saturday, June 28 at 11 a.m.

    Leeman is buried in the Leeman Cemetery on the Leeman Road, located on the back road from Guilford to Abbot which will be marked by signs and balloons. The public is invited to attend this event, which will recognize his efforts in the Revolutionary War. The Abbot Historical Society will provide a soup and sandwich buffet luncheon at the Abbot Town Hall after the ceremony.
    Following the Revolutionary War, Leeman moved his family to Abbot. He is buried on the Leeman Road property along with his daughter. Family members John and Sharon McKusick continue to own the property. The headstone for Leeman is a piece of granite donated by the McKusicks and dates back to the time of his homestead on the land.
