GFWC/Miosac Club resumes meetings

DOVER-FOXCROFT – The GFWC/Miosac Club has resumed meeting, with two January meetings held at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church.

Jan. 4 it was a “bring your own” lunch. President Suzanne Raymond conducted the business meeting, catching up with business matters. The lookout chairperson reported on members unable to attend.

Committee reports were given. Wendy Hutchins, SeDoMoCha School teacher, reported on the Miracle Tree project – $2,500 was raised with $438 being the GFWC/Miosac share. She then noted the children were doing a penny drive and members responded with more than $25 at that meeting.

Club members decided not to do the ice out this year.

They will continue the “Change Jar,” GFWC/Maine presidents’ project to send children to summer camp.

The next meeting was Jan. 18 with 11 members responding to their preference for pea soup or beef stew – surprisingly many chose pea soup. Anne Cress gave the treasurer’s report. Roxy McGlauflin read correspondence from Girl Scouts, American Legion, and PRYMCA. Business followed with Raymon’s request that each member make 10 Valentine’s cards to be given to nursing homes. She also asked us to sanction making blankets for the vets.

Non-food cupboard items this month will be shampoo and conditioner.

Raymond reported on volunteer hours and monies donated to the state. GFWC/Miosac contributed $2,564 with in-kind total being $3,360. Volunteer hours were 598, we carried on in spite of COVID.

Minnie McCormick presented a very interesting program, “The History of Aprons.”

Barb Austin suggested we all wear aprons at the Feb. 2 meeting. Hostesses will be Brenda Quiet and Diane Leighton. Hutchins will be program chairperson for bingo with proceeds going to the American Legion, Delicious Jello cake was served by McGlauflin and Rheba Michaud.
