Black Fly Festival scheduled for Saturday
MILO — The Milo Events Committee invites the public to the 2014 Milo Black Fly Festival on Saturday, June 7. The festival day includes a parade, lots of food for sale, a vendor/craft fair, live music, a dessert contest, coffee and dessert and a lighted boat parade.
The parade will run from the Eastern Piscataquis Business Park on Park Street to Penquis Valley High School. Units will line up at 10 a.m. at the business park (and if needed at other businesses along Park Street). The parade will begin at 11 a.m.
The vendor/craft fair will be at Veterans Memorial Park along Water Street. The American Legion Post on West Main Street will host an indoor bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, also selling hot dogs and hamburgers.
The Park Street United Methodist Church will have a lawn sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, Italian sandwiches, whoopee pies and root beer floats too. The sale will be inside with rain.
Scavenger Hunt entries must be turned in at the information tent at the waterfront by 1 p.m. Prizes will be drawn after entries are validated.
Live music from the deck of Elaine’s Basket Café and Bakery starts at 5 p.m.
A pie, cookie and dessert bar contest happens in the afternoon at the town hall. Judging will be done at 4 p.m., with coffee and dessert to follow.
There will be a lighted boat parade at dusk on the Sebec River (running from the boat landing to the high school and back). Conclude festivities with a visit to Pat’s Pizza where Midnight Rose will be playing between 8:30 pm. and 12:30 a.m.
