Foxcroft cross country runs at Old Town Sectionals

OLD TOWN — The Foxcroft Academy cross country team took part in the 71st Old Town Sectional Meet on Sept. 27. The Pony boys were 11th of 11 teams with a score of 222 points, being tied with Washington Academy of East Machias but the Raiders were ahead by virtue of having a sixth runner.

Foxcroft freshman Runner Jarett led the Ponies by placing 11th among a field of 76 entrants. Jarrett covered the 5K course in 19 minutes, 32.48 seconds. 

Senior Aidan Currie came in 53rd at 23:16.75 and junior Gunnar Berling-Haugh was next in 54th place with a time of 23:30.34. Rounding out the Foxcroft contingent were sophomores Jack Kingsbury and Zachary Peirce in 61st and 62nd place with respective times of 24:55.72 and 24:59.68.

Piscataquis Community High School sophomore Jorgen Halvorsen ran at the Old Town Sectionals. Halvorsen finished 52nd at 23:06.26.

Mount Desert Island High School ended the day atop the team standings with 51 points. Caribou High School came in second at 90 and Hermon High School was third at 115 points.

MDI junior Sam York won the race by about two seconds in 17:42.78.

The Foxcroft girls finished sixth among seven teams with 120 points, besting the 132 for Hermon.

Pony junior Nora Koskela-Koivisto led the team by placing 19th — out of 58 — in a time of 25:31.75. Junior Annie Raynes came in 26th at 26:00.75.

Senior Olivia McCorrison was 30th with her time of 26:51.78, and finishing 34th was senior Emily Fuller at 27:49.68. Rounding out the Foxcroft five was senior Makayla Landry, who came in 49th at 29:59.28.

MDI won with 24 points, followed by second-place Orono High School with 81 points. Caribou was third at 103 points.

Caribou junior Kayley Bell crossed the finish line in 21:34.87 to win the race by over 22 seconds.
