Area cross country teams run at Saxl Park

BANGOR — Runners from Dexter Regional High School, Foxcroft Academy and Piscataquis Community Secondary School joined Penobscot Valley Conference teams of varying sizes during a Sept. 18 meet at Saxl Park hosted by John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor.

The boys from Foxcroft Academy scored 196 points to finish seventh among nine full squads.

Pony freshman Runner Jarrett led his team by coming in 18th in a field of 71 entrants. Jarrett covered the 5K course in 19 minutes, 21.79 seconds. Next up was senior Aiden Currie, who placed 42nd at 22:31.18.

The rest of the Foxcroft top five were senior Jasper Makowski, 54th at 23:39.40; junior Gunnar Berling-augh, 57th at 24:19.22; and sophomore Zachary Peirce, 58th at 24:33.62.

Also running for the Ponies were sophomores Jack Kingsbury, 62nd at 25:20.84, and Philip Capelle, 64th at 26:24.81.

The Dexter boys finished the day in ninth place.

Junior Payson Reinhardt was 20th in a time of 19:44.19. Freshman Willis Reinhardt crossed the finish line next for the Tigers, in 39th place at 22:05.08.

Rounding out the Tiger contingent was junior Trevor Speed, 51st at 23:10.84; senior Miles Gadwah, 68th at 28:43.31; and sophomore David Race, 70th at 31:29.87.

PCSS sophomore Jorgen Halvorsen ran on Saturday. Halvorsen placed 52nd in a time of 23:28.27.

Hampden Academy finished in first place with 34 points, followed by 38 for Bangor High School. Host John Bapst was third with a score of 84 points.

Hampden senior Abbott Valentine came in first by more than 73 seconds with his time of 16:21.17.

In the girls’ race, Foxcroft was fifth among five point-scoring schools with 122 points.

Pony junior Nora Koskela-Koivisto led her team by finishing 22nd among a field of 59 entrants in a time of 26:37.58. Senior Emily Fuller placed 35th in 28:45.78.

The rest of the Foxcroft point-scoring runners were senior Olivia McCorrison, 36th at 28:50.20; senior Makayla Landry, 43rd at 30:47.91; and junior Ines Abizanda, 53rd at 35:49.26.

Joining their teammates in Bangor was junior Caroline Heilborn, 56th at 41:23.84; and senior Ann Phan, 57th at 42:03.21.

Dexter freshman Sunny Bache finished 37th in her time of 28:51.76. Tiger junior Emma Alexander was 40th at 29:53.34.

Bangor earned first-place honors in the girls’ standings with 23 points. Hampden Academy came in second with 62 and John Bapst finished third with 73 points.

Bangor junior Sadie Harrow won the race in 21:57.22, edging second place by under three seconds.
