Work planned for two forest management projects

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District is beginning forestry management projects at both the Demonstration Forest in Williamsburg and the Law Farm property in Dover-Foxcroft. At the Demonstration Forest, a red pine thinning will be conducted. A group selection cut will also be done off the Loop Trail. An older fir and pine plantation that is overgrown will be cut at the Law Farm. Both of these forest cuts will take place over the next several weeks.

The conservation district is requesting that groups, families and individuals, that would like to utilize either property for recreational or educational activities, please contact the conservation district prior to planning a visit, so that the district may guide visitors away from areas where there will be active harvesting and  toward areas that may be best suited to the planned activities.  The district is managing these community land resources for sustainability, so that these special places will continue to grow as educational, recreational and economic assets for the region.

For more information about planning a visit to either the Demonstration Forest or the Law Farm property, please contact the Piscataquis County SWCD at 564-2321, extension 3 or at 42 Engdahl Drive at the USDA Service Center in Dover-Foxcroft.
