GFWC/Miosac Club news
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC/Miosac Club met at the home of Vicki Moschella on Feb. 5. President Betsey Ryan welcomed members and thanked hostesses Vicki and Diane Leighton. Thirteen members braved the cold to attend.
DOLL HOUSE — Program chair Vicki Moschella hosted a GFWC/Miosac Club meeting on Feb. 5.
Leighton led the Club Collect, American Creed and Pledge of Allegiance. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given. The Traveling Basket has netted $60 which is designated to Newborns In Need.
Minnie McCormick reported on publicity and praised the Piscataquis Observer for being so cooperative and helpful. Barb Glover reported that the next meeting will be at Thayer Parkway Feb. 19 with McCormick and Leona Dow as hostesses. Deb Boyd, director of the PRYMCA will be the speaker.
McCormick than gave a report of Newborns In Need and asked that the club collection jar be designated for local purchases for diapers and baby care products. She also noted that letters had been sent to hospitals and funeral homes telling what we have to offer for services.
Dot Finnemore reported on the local art show that will be held at Center Theatre on March 24.
Under new business, Glover announced that she has Ice Out tickets and we can sell starting Feb. 15. This money helps support the many programs the club serves. Members then voted to have winter meetings starting at 6 o’clock. This will be the starting time for the Feb. 19 meeting.
Carol Kilpatrick reminded members of the three charities discussed at the last meeting to receive Community Project funds. Members voted to donate to PRYMCA, Pine Tree Hospice and fuel assistance. Money from the change jar was approved to be used locally for diapers, etc.
Glover reminded members to go to the Savings Bank Community Charities and vote for Newborns In Need to win money — this can also be done online.
Public service announcements: Yesteryear Music Makers concert Feb. 16 at the United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned and members took turns eating refreshments and looking at Moschella’s extensive doll collection.
